Eugene is an alternative indie rock collective who concoct their delightfully confusing brand of atmospheric noise in their private industrial cave at secret location on Sydney’s Northern beaches.
Eugene formed at the end of 2014 as a reaction against dreary, formulaic electronic music plaguing the airways and as an attempt to bring back a little spirit of innovation into a stagnant rock scene.
Touching on post-punk, grunge, prog rock and psychedelia, Eugene filter experimental avant-garde influences through pop song writing sensibilities to deliver a unique and quirky combination of both male and female lead vocals, layered over driving rhythmic grooves and enough guitar effects to be considered hazardous to human health. The band’s continuously evolving sound incorporates synthesisers, Middle Eastern percussion, folk instruments and lyrical themes of personal introspection, social commentary, as well as a healthy dose of macabre humour added in for good measure.
Eugene released their debut EP ‘That’ll Do…’ in November 2015, drawing comparisons to artists such as Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, The Cure, The B-52’s, David Bowie, The Divinyls, Talking Heads and Bauhaus.
Join Eugene on a journey into unknown sonic territory, where the only thing that’s certain is weirdness.
